What most strikes me as odd about playing these shows week after week, month after month, is the fresh response every time. I’m amazed how people seem to be genuinely inspired by what we’re up to. After every show, we’re beset on all sides by people offering (the illusion of) praise, even criticism and advice; sometimes stalkerish appreciation! I’m not being faux modest; it seems odd to me because we’re playing the same stuff every week and obviously we’re used to it. I suppose we should get used to making people smile and dance too. That’s the idea.
i must admit i was a little terrified while recently recording the haunting violin part for rollover strategy [v5.0], an upcoming number on version 5 of the kuleshov effect. producer rob gonzo’s EMP (electronic music production) class at SAE college in cape town got a taste of pravda23 using no fewer than six condenser mikes for just the one part!
it’s not the first time we’ve done these evening sessions at the world-renowned SAE Institute. moving and shaking these days!

i’m obsessed with Goldfish. honestly, it’s embarrassing; i have dreams about performing alongside them and wake up and have to go to work. i started creating a swing track yesterday, and i’m taking it very seriously, but think i need a snare drum and a few brass players to make it sound good. i’ve converted my downstairs bedroom into the studio, and i now sleep in the loft. pravda23 has always been the art project to keep me going, and i’ve never really expected it to go anywhere. still now, i debate whether i’m going to call up cybar, dizzy’s, ace tavern, grand daddy hotel and a trillion other places to ask if they’re keen for entertainment. i need a manager who sees the potential to – well, in a nutshell – the potential to make business out of me, nic and the other pravda23 artists.
the biggest obstacle to what i’m doing through re-imagining the distribution process is the mindset that says if something’s free, it’s crap, right? i’ve got loads to say on this, but in a nutshell: times have changed. music is now rapidly shifting from product to marketing service and thanks to the program i follow, Version 4.0 of my ongoing RSS distribution project The Kuleshov Effect is finished. seven tracks, loads of effort. download it free and you tell me what you think. we perform all of these cool banging tracks live at our shows. it’s where the music really happens nowadays. see you there.
