They’ve done something to the cover. I dunno what – an aged, yellow filter or something – but it looks sick. Oh wait! Check, it’s a world map! And they’ve got one spot under a magnifying glass. What’s that say…Recipe? Recife! Recife, Brazil. But they spell it ‘Brasil’. This looks good.

I burn through CD after CD, a catalogue I’m really supposed to have returned by now, but whatever. I want new music. And this stuff looks hot. Produced by overseas heads called ‘The Factor’ and ‘Juno Reactor.’ It reeks of tech guruism, of professionalism.

Of ‘somewhere else’.

So pravda23 and I have been pushing outwards, confusing the real and the virtual as usual. The most recent artwork? An ink-and-canvas piece called Quick Response, which allows users to ‘link’ to a website on their phone by scanning the artwork with code-reading software.

Since the previous post on the comic art coming out of Cape Town, my love for thunk has quadrupled. I mean seriously. I get a package with not one but 2 awesome printed T-shirts and 2 copies of local surf comic Planet Loob (‘sounds dirty’ says my mate Mikey, who will not be named). The monthly TPDK Circuitry parties began in Observatory in mid-2008 when a crew of Port Elizabeth producers and performers arrived in Cape Town with a single vision: to create a live electronic music event exhibition; a showcase of the power of mixing digitalism with soulful, live performance.

Typically richer in diversity of talent than media exposure, TPDK is one of Cape Town’s hidden gems. TPDK Circuitry is dance and roots electronica made real.

TPDK #10 will take place on Saturday, June 6th at MOJO in Observatory at 9pm. There will be live electronic music, a fireplace and places to chill or dance. Guests all receive a Mixtake® CD of Cape Town’s underground live electronic music culture.

TPDK Circuitry is a no-smoking-indoors event. MOJO has a large fresh-air balcony with a view for all smokers.
