When you work in the music industry, you read so much press hype that it’s difficult to know where the music ends and the game begins. We’re all perpetually on the hunt for the new, the cool, the undiscovered. With a pleasure derived from the aesthetic alone, pradva23 presents Oceans & Cities. One of those ‘hidden gems’ you hear about, check out, and subsequently wonder why they’ve only got 129 friends on Myspace. Excellent local electronic music from Cape Town music producer and film student ‘J’.
Yes, 48k really was a lot of RAM back then. Memories from the 80s with this retro ZX Spectrum Advert you’ve never seen before.
Part of completing the long haul is putting up beacons along the way. Here’s the first page of Edition 2 of Dot Comic. Still got some shading and text work to do, but it’s pretty much op pad.
The comic strip is, in fact, the album sleeve for The Kuleshov Effect [still confused?]. Tracks are always released in versions, along with a comic strip. The music is remixed, remastered, re-invented and re-released in a future album, and the comic always centres around a theme. The first edition (below) was an introduction to how I met pravda23 (the computer virus / program that inhabits my consciousness, even now as I type). Edition 2 explains how money and wealth are different. It’s relevant to everyone.
Just as a reminder that you can do whatever you want, check out the initial sketching for Edition 1 of Dot Comic, which was released last year and is now retailing in stores across Cape Town. It started with a few doodles upstairs on my couch, and just refused to die. Everyone likes a comic.
Here’s how the vlogs (video logs) work: I allow the online program persona pravda23 to speak freely into the camera. Depending on the general mood, the program then composes music to suit the vlog. Angry? powerful, heavy music. Introspective? tender, melancholy music. etc. Experimentation is KEY!!!
confused as to how this works? find out more here
Why not check out the secret to success?
It’s not as hard as you think getting published in The Tatler, the unofficial mouthpiece of white, middle-class paranoia. Just write ‘em a letter you think they’d like to read.
