It’s this burning sense that somewhere else, ten thousand miles away in Vancouver, Perth, Kuala Lumpur, Buenos Aires, that ‘things are happening’.
I read the Internet, one art blog at a time. They’re all clean, slick, well coded little numbers with colourful CSS and snappy titles, the kind devised over an evening of guilloché. Wiki it, and then spot the matching word-for-word definition on the blogs of the young artists, desperate for recognition. Look at me, look what I can do!
When I was travelling the world a few years back, I noticed a sense of possibility. Regardless of where I was, people – people like me – were getting by somehow. They were finding ways, making plans, tossing themselves headfirst into a whirlwind just to feel the wind in their hair.
So how do we reconnect with this sense of possibility?
