Indefinite Hiatus

Posted by johnb | Updates | Monday 15 June 2009 6:07 pm

As fun as computer keyboards are, pravda23 prefers the feeling of real keys under my fingers. So, with much ado about nothing, we’re pulling the plug on the pravda23 project for a few days / weeks / whatever to focus on rehearsing classical pieces, jazz standards and coding some new electronic material.

5 Things You Should Know About Playing Live

Posted by johnb | Funny, Updates | Wednesday 10 June 2009 6:23 pm

So we’re getting into playing live, outdoor lunchtime gigs now. By ‘we’ I mean me and (of course) my inseparable imaginary friend pravda23), and by ‘gigs’ I mean begging cafes and restaurants to let me use their electricity plug-points. Here are a few things I’ve learned over the past few days.

Posted by johnb | Updates | Tuesday 9 June 2009 12:03 am

A simple synopsis of our state of affairs:

* Team Humanity is producing too much Carbon Dioxide in order to meet its energy needs

* The more Team Humanity produces, the warmer and less predictable our tiny planet’s climate gets

* Team Humanity is now entering the Age of Action in order to reduce its carbon emissions

Live Video: Autumn Leaves

Posted by johnb | Updates, Videos | Monday 8 June 2009 10:43 pm

Definitely something soothing about playing the past. A popular song in the 1940s (pravda23 is clearly a fan of French music), “Les feuilles mortes” (literally “The Dead Leaves”) was written by Joseph Kosma. English lyrics were credited to American songwriter Johnny Mercer in 1947. Hold a timeless attitude towards music and only the best music will fill your collection. I think.

Now, watch it evolve over time into a full-blown house dance track, kinda like the Way Out West version from back in the day. THIS is what it means to update your music >>> remix classics into modern form, and give new life to the timeless. Updates on the way.

Podcast: pravda23 On Lounge Groove 4 Mix

Posted by johnb | Downloads, Updates | Wednesday 3 June 2009 11:51 am

It rattles my circuits with joy when other DJs notice. Bless the boys at ListenUp.za.net, probably the most progressive podcast / mp3 mix / dj collective in the country? Why? Because they only podcast good tunes. Halo Atiyyah [v2.7] made the cut for Digital Project’s Lounge Groove 4, a collection of purely South African electronica gems. Damn, just the words “electronic music” make me and my best imaginary friend wanna hug someone at times like these. Download it below, and see you at TPDK Circuitry on Saturday.

They’ve done something to the cover. I dunno what - an aged, yellow filter or something - but it looks sick. Oh wait! Check, it’s a world map! And they’ve got one spot under a magnifying glass. What’s that say…Recipe? Recife! Recife, Brazil. But they spell it ‘Brasil’. This looks good.

I burn through CD after CD, a catalogue I’m really supposed to have returned by now, but whatever. I want new music. And this stuff looks hot. Produced by overseas heads called ‘The Factor’ and ‘Juno Reactor.’ It reeks of tech guruism, of professionalism.

Of ’somewhere else’.
