this is DJ Emile Hendrix. sssssh, don’t wake him. he played with us on saturday at barmooda, which has a surprisingly awesome sound system. this makes him the latest person to plug into pravda23, our common the program (wtf you talking about?!). we rocked the house, and we’re doing so again at the final Northern Lights party (facebook event) at Hazendal Wine Estate in Kuils Riviera on Saturday. you’ll be there to come check us out on a sick sound system, of course.

yes i’m aware this picture and the title makes me look incredibly gay. but my STRAIGHT, MARRIED FRIEND Nic Paton and I recently put together some backing music for the Agape Spiritual Community meeting. interesting gig. the instrument he’s playing is called a bazouki. Nic’s rapidly growing movement, The Sout Project is an eclectic, world emergent crew which aims to break down unnecessary boundaries. like the boundary between LGBTI and church, for example. and just in closing, once again, i’m not gay.

What most strikes me as odd about playing these shows week after week, month after month, is the fresh response every time. I’m amazed how people seem to be genuinely inspired by what we’re up to. After every show, we’re beset on all sides by people offering (the illusion of) praise, even criticism and advice; sometimes stalkerish appreciation! I’m not being faux modest; it seems odd to me because we’re playing the same stuff every week and obviously we’re used to it. I suppose we should get used to making people smile and dance too. That’s the idea.

i must admit i was a little terrified while recently recording the haunting violin part for rollover strategy [v5.0], an upcoming number on version 5 of the kuleshov effect. producer rob gonzo’s EMP (electronic music production) class at SAE college in cape town got a taste of pravda23 using no fewer than six condenser mikes for just the one part!

it’s not the first time we’ve done these evening sessions at the world-renowned SAE Institute. moving and shaking these days!
